Tafsir (Explanation):
In this powerful scene from the Day of Judgment, the people of the Fire cry out in desperate need to the people of Paradise, pleading: "Pour upon us some water, or from what Allah has provided you!" They are not asking for luxury or comfort — only a drop of water or a morsel of food to ease their unbearable torment. This is a moment of utter humiliation and regret, as those who once rejected the truth now beg for the simplest of worldly blessings that they took for granted in their earthly lives.
The people of Paradise respond with a firm and truthful answer: "Indeed, Allah has forbidden both of them to the disbelievers." This is not a refusal born of selfishness, but a declaration of divine justice. Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, had made clear through His messengers that Paradise and its delights are reserved for those who believed and did righteous deeds. The disbelievers, who mocked the truth, denied the resurrection, and rejected the prophets, have sealed their own fate. Their punishment is a direct consequence of their own choices.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: the blessings of this world — water, food, health, and comfort — are not guaranteed to anyone in the Hereafter. They are tests and reminders of Allah's generosity. The one who uses these blessings to obey Allah and draw closer to Him will be rewarded with everlasting bliss, while the one who squanders them in disobedience and arrogance will taste the bitter regret of loss. Let this scene awaken your heart today: do not wait until you are standing at the edge of the Fire to realize the value of Allah's favors. Turn to Him now, seek His forgiveness, and strive for a place in the gardens where rivers flow beneath the trees — a reward that never ends.
