Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Fasilatihi (فَصِيلَتِهِ): His closest kin or clan — those related to him by blood, such as his extended family and tribe.
- Tu'weehi (تُؤْوِيهِ): That gives him refuge and shelter — the family that embraces him, protects him, and to whom he turns in times of hardship.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, the disbeliever will be shown his family and relatives, yet no one will be able to help another. In his utter despair and terror of the punishment, he will desperately wish to ransom himself from that torment by offering his children, his spouse, his brother, and even his closest kin — the very clan that once sheltered him, stood by him in difficulties, and gave him a sense of belonging and protection in this worldly life. He would go so far as to offer every single person on earth, just to save himself from the agony that awaits him.
This verse paints a vivid picture of the sheer horror of that Day — a day when the strongest bonds of love and loyalty are shattered by fear, and a person is willing to sacrifice even those dearest to him for his own salvation. Yet, no ransom will be accepted, and no family ties will avail anyone on that Day.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, imagine a moment so terrifying that a person would willingly trade his own children and kin to escape it. This is the reality of the Hereafter that the Qur'an warns us about — not to frighten us aimlessly, but to awaken our hearts. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given us this life as a chance to turn back to Him, to purify our souls, and to build a relationship with our Creator that will save us on that Day. The very family and clan that we cherish today will be of no use tomorrow if we neglect our duties to Allah. But if we strive in His path, Allah promises us a reward beyond imagination — gardens of bliss, eternal peace, and the joy of seeing His noble face. Let this verse be a reminder to prioritize what truly matters: faith, good deeds, and sincere repentance. The door of mercy is open wide — do not wait until the Day when no ransom will be accepted.
