Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا" — "and all who are on the earth" — meaning every single being on the planet, including humans, jinn, and all creatures.
- "ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ" — "then it would save him" — meaning that this ransom or sacrifice would rescue him from the punishment of Allah.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Resurrection, when the disbeliever sees the terrifying reality of the Hereafter and the punishment that awaits him, he will be willing to sacrifice everything he holds dear to escape that torment. He will wish to ransom himself with his children, his wife, his brother, his close relatives who sheltered and protected him, and indeed with every single being on the face of the earth — humans, jinn, and all creation — if only that ransom could save him from the punishment of Allah. Yet, no matter what he offers, no ransom will be accepted, and no sacrifice will grant him deliverance. The verse paints a vivid picture of the sheer desperation and regret that will overwhelm the sinner on that day, when all worldly attachments become worthless and the only thing that matters is escaping the divine justice.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This powerful image should awaken every heart to the reality of the Hereafter. If a person is willing to give up everything — even the most beloved people in his life — to save himself from punishment, how much more should we, in this life, be willing to give up our sins, our bad habits, and our worldly distractions to secure our salvation? The Quran presents this scene not to frighten us into despair, but to guide us toward the path of mercy and forgiveness. Allah, in His infinite compassion, has opened the door of repentance for us right now — a door that will be closed on that Day. So seize this precious opportunity, turn back to your Lord with a sincere heart, and let the love of Allah and the fear of His justice transform your life into one of righteousness and peace. The One who created you is the One who loves you most, and He has given you every chance to succeed. Do not wait until the Day when no ransom will be accepted — act today, and let your faith be your salvation.
