Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ (a known right): A specified, fixed portion or share that is obligatory upon the wealth, referring to the prescribed Zakat (obligatory charity) and other due rights of the poor and needy.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse describes a defining quality of the believers who are saved from the anxiety and miserliness inherent in human nature. After mentioning that humans are created impatient and tightly clinging to their wealth, Allah distinguishes those who are devoted to prayer and who recognize that their wealth is not entirely their own. They understand that within their possessions lies a *known right* — a divinely appointed share that must be given to those who ask for help and those who are too dignified to ask. This right is the obligatory Zakat, which purifies their wealth and their souls, and it also includes voluntary charity and acts of kindness that go beyond the minimum requirement. These believers do not wait until they are reminded or until an emergency arises; they proactively fulfill this right as a constant, recognized duty, because they know that wealth is a trust from Allah and that true prosperity lies in spending for His sake.

Da'wah (Invitation to Goodness):

Dear reader, this verse teaches us a beautiful secret to inner peace: your wealth grows and your heart finds rest when you acknowledge that others have a share in it. The believer is not a prisoner of his money, nor a slave to his desires. Rather, he is a generous steward who sees his provision as a means to draw closer to Allah and to lift the burdens of his fellow human beings. Imagine the tranquility that fills your heart when you give your Zakat with a sincere intention, knowing that you have obeyed your Lord and supported your community. This is not a loss — it is an investment with Allah, Who multiplies every good deed beyond measure. Let this verse inspire you to be among those who give willingly, consistently, and with love, so that you may taste the sweetness of faith and the joy of being a source of goodness for others.
