Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Rasūlan" (رَسُولًا): A messenger sent by Allah with a divine mission to guide his people.
  • "Shāhidan" (شَاهِدًا): A witness — one who observes and will testify to the deeds of the people on the Day of Judgment.
  • "Farʿawn" (فِرْعَوْنَ): The tyrant king of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, known for his arrogance and oppression.

Explanation of the Verse:

O people of Makkah! Indeed, We have sent to you Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as a messenger, and he will be a witness over you on the Day of Judgment — testifying to your faith or your disbelief, your obedience or your disobedience. Just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh — and that messenger was Musa (Moses), peace be upon him — so too have We sent this final messenger to you. The parallel is striking and deliberate: Pharaoh was given a clear warning through Musa, yet he rejected him, persisted in tyranny, and met a devastating end. Likewise, you have been given the greatest of messengers, the final prophet, with the clearest of messages — and the choice is yours.

This verse carries a profound and loving warning from Allah to His servants. It is as if He is saying: "Do not let your hearts become hard like Pharaoh's heart. Do not let pride or worldly desires blind you to the truth. For when a messenger is sent to a people, they are left with no excuse before Allah. The message has been delivered, the proof has been established, and the witness will testify."

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, reflect on the immense mercy of Allah in this verse. He did not leave you without guidance — He sent you the best of creation, Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose character was the living embodiment of the Quran. This messenger is not just a warner; he is a witness for you and over you. Imagine standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) is there, testifying about your life. Will he testify that you believed in him, loved him, followed his sunnah, and carried his message to others? Or will his testimony be one of sorrow over your neglect?

The comparison to Pharaoh is a gentle yet firm reminder: no matter how powerful, wealthy, or influential a person may be, arrogance before Allah leads only to ruin. Pharaoh had an entire empire, yet his rejection of one messenger brought him to utter destruction. You, too, have been given a messenger — the final one — and the stakes are even higher, for his message is for all of humanity until the end of time.

So seize this moment. Open your heart to the message of Islam. Love the Prophet (peace be upon him), follow his teachings, and let his character inspire yours. For he is not only a witness against those who reject — he is also a witness of mercy, interceding for those who believed and followed him with sincerity. Let this verse be a turning point in your life, a reminder that you have been honored with the greatest gift — the final revelation and the final messenger — and the best response to such honor is gratitude, obedience, and love.

📜 Verse 13-17 — Al-Muzzammil

And food that chokes and a painful punishment -
On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down.
Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.
But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired?
