Key Words and Their Meanings:
- لَا يَحْسَبَنَّ (lā yaḥsabanna): Let them not think or assume.

- لَا يُعْجِزُونَ (lā yuʿjizūn): They cannot frustrate or escape (Allah’s power).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse carries a profound and reassuring message for the believers, while serving as a stern warning to those who reject the truth. Allah addresses His Prophet ﷺ directly, telling him to convey this truth to the disbelievers: let them never imagine that they have escaped Allah’s grasp or that they have outrun His justice. After the Battle of Badr, some of the disbelievers who fled might have felt a false sense of security, thinking they had slipped away from punishment. But Allah, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful, declares clearly and decisively that they have not escaped—and they never will.
The verse emphasizes that no matter how fast they run, how clever their schemes, or how far they think they have distanced themselves from accountability, Allah’s power encompasses everything. They cannot weaken Him, nor can they render His will ineffective. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who holds all affairs in His hands, is certainly capable of reaching them wherever they are. Their fleeting victories in this world are nothing but a temporary illusion; the ultimate reality is that Allah’s justice will inevitably catch up with them, whether in this life or the Hereafter.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a source of immense comfort for the believers. It reassures them that truth will always prevail, and falsehood—no matter how powerful it may appear—will never escape the divine decree. For the disbelievers, it is a gentle yet firm invitation to reconsider their stance before it is too late. Allah does not wish to destroy anyone unjustly; rather, He gives chances and respite, but His patience should never be mistaken for weakness. The door of repentance is always open, and turning back to Allah is the only true path to safety and success. Let this verse remind every soul that Allah’s watchful eye never misses a single deed, and His mercy is vast for those who seek it sincerely.
