Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ظَنَّ (Zanna): He assumed or thought, based on his own conjecture rather than certainty.
- أَن لَّن يَحُورَ (An lan yahoor): That he would never return — i.e., never come back to life, never be resurrected, and never return to his Lord for reckoning.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse unveils the root cause of the disbeliever’s ruin: his false assumption that he would never return to his Creator. He lived his life as if death were the final end — no resurrection, no accountability, no afterlife. This delusion made him careless, arrogant, and immersed in worldly pleasures, never pausing to reflect on the consequences of his deeds. He thought he was free to do as he pleased, with no higher power to answer to.
Yet the truth is the complete opposite: Allah will surely bring him back to life, just as He originated him the first time. The One who created him from nothing is fully able to recreate him. Nothing of his deeds — great or small, open or hidden — escapes Allah’s knowledge. His Lord has always been fully aware of his state, from the moment of his creation until his final breath, and He will judge him with perfect justice.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
How astonishing is it that a human being, who knows he was once nothing and was brought into existence by a power greater than himself, could ever imagine that the same power cannot bring him back after death? The One who began creation will repeat it — that is easy for Him. This false assumption is not merely an intellectual error; it is a spiritual disease that corrupts one’s entire life. When a person truly believes he will return to his Lord, his heart becomes vigilant, his actions become measured, and his desires are kept in check. But when he denies the return, he loses all restraint and plunges into ruin.
Dear reader, let this verse awaken you from heedlessness. Do not live as if this world is your final destination. The journey does not end at the grave — it only begins there. Return to your Lord now, in this life, with sincere repentance and good deeds, so that when you meet Him, you meet Him with a heart that is at peace. For Allah is ever watchful over you, and His mercy is vast for those who turn back to Him before it is too late.
