Word Meanings:

  • Balā (بَلَىٰ): Yes, indeed — a particle of affirmation used to confirm a positive response to a negative statement, meaning "Certainly, it is not as he assumed."
  • Bihi Baṣīran (بِهِ بَصِيرًا): Fully seeing and aware of him — meaning Allah's complete, all-encompassing knowledge of that person's entire state and condition.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a decisive response to the misguided assumption of the disbeliever who thought he would never be brought back to life for accountability. Allah refutes this false notion with a firm "Yes, indeed!" — affirming that resurrection is an absolute reality. The One who created him from nothing is fully capable of recreating him.

The verse emphasizes that Allah's sight encompasses everything about His servant — from the moment of his initial creation, through every stage of his life, until his final return. Nothing escapes His knowledge: no hidden intention, no secret deed, no silent thought. This divine awareness is not passive observation but carries with it perfect justice — every action will be met with its due recompense.

The disbeliever lived his life in heedlessness, delighting in worldly pleasures and feeling secure from any reckoning. He imagined himself beyond the reach of divine accountability. But Allah's sight was upon him at every moment — in his joy, in his arrogance, in his denial. And that same sight will witness his state on the Day of Judgment when he is cast into the Fire.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: the Creator who fashioned you in your mother's womb, who knows the number of your breaths, who sees the movements of your heart — He has never lost sight of you for a single instant. If you live in obedience, He sees your striving. If you err, He sees your mistake. And when you return to Him, He will reward you according to what His sight has witnessed.

This should fill the believer with hope — for Allah's sight means He knows your sincere efforts, your hidden struggles, your quiet worship. And it should awaken the heedless — for no one can hide from the One who sees all. Let this awareness transform your life: live as one who is always seen, always known, always in the presence of the All-Seeing Lord. How beautiful is the life of one who realizes that Allah's watchful eye is a source of comfort for the righteous and a warning for the negligent!
