📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Samaa' (السَّمَاء): The sky/heavens — the vast celestial expanse above us.
  • Rufi'at (رُفِعَت): Raised high, lifted up — referring to its elevation above the earth without any visible supports.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After directing attention to the camel and its miraculous creation, Allah now turns our gaze upward to the sky — inviting us to reflect on how it was raised high above us. The sky is not held by pillars, not supported by ropes, not attached to anything visible. Yet it stands firm, a magnificent canopy over the earth, never falling, never collapsing, despite its immense vastness and the countless celestial bodies it contains. This is a sign of Allah's absolute power and perfect design. The sky is raised as a protected ceiling, as Allah says elsewhere, "And We made the sky a protected ceiling" (Al-Anbiya: 32). It does not fall upon us, nor does it drift away — it remains in perfect order by the command of its Creator. This reflection calls the disbelievers to ponder: who but Allah, the All-Powerful, could raise such a structure without any visible support? The very existence of the sky above us, stable and secure, is a living testimony to the greatness of the One who created it.

Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, look up at the sky today — whether in the brightness of day or the stillness of night. That vast blue or star-filled expanse above you is not an accident, not a random occurrence. It is a sign from your Lord, calling you to know Him. Every time you see the sky, let it remind you of the One who raised it — and who raises your affairs, your provisions, and your rank when you turn to Him in humility. The same Allah who holds the heavens without pillars is the One who holds your heart, your life, and your destiny. So why not place your trust in Him? Why not submit to the One whose power is evident in every direction you look? The sky above you is not just a view — it is an invitation to faith. Respond to it, and you will find peace that no earthly thing can provide.

16وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
And carpets spread around.
17أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?
18وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
And at the sky - how it is raised?
19وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
And at the mountains - how they are erected?
20وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
And at the earth - how it is spread out?
