Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Sutihat (سُطِحَتْ): Spread out, flattened, and made level like a surface prepared for dwelling and movement.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Look at the earth around you — how it has been spread out flat and smooth, made ready for you to walk upon, build upon, and live upon in comfort and stability. It is not rugged or impossible to traverse, but rather a vast, leveled expanse that accommodates human life, agriculture, travel, and settlement. This spreading of the earth is not a random accident; it is a deliberate act of divine design, preparing a perfect habitat for humanity. The earth’s surface, with its plains, valleys, and pathways, has been shaped to sustain life, and its very flatness in the regions where people dwell is a sign of Allah’s mercy and wisdom.

Reflect deeply, O servant of Allah — just as the camel is created with precision, the sky raised high without pillars, and the mountains anchored firmly, so too is the earth spread out beneath your feet. Every step you take upon this leveled ground is a reminder of the Creator’s power and His care for His creation. He did not leave you in chaos or hardship; He prepared the earth as a cradle for you, a place of rest and provision.

This verse calls upon the disbelievers who deny the resurrection to open their eyes and ponder these undeniable signs. If they can see how the earth is spread, how the sky is raised, and how the mountains are fixed, how can they deny that the One who did all this is capable of bringing the dead back to life? The same power that flattened the earth for your benefit can surely raise you from your graves for the final reckoning.

So let this reflection increase your faith and gratitude. When you walk upon this earth, remember that it is a gift from your Lord, a sign of His boundless mercy, and a proof that He who prepared this world for you will also prepare the Hereafter for those who believe and do righteous deeds. Do not be among the heedless who see these signs every day yet turn away; rather, be among those who look, reflect, and submit to their Creator with love and awe.

📜 Verse 18-22 — Al-Ghashiyah

And at the sky - how it is raised?
And at the mountains - how they are erected?
And at the earth - how it is spread out?
So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.
You are not over them a controller.
