Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, remind the people of the Day when Allah will gather all of creation—the first and the last, the righteous and the wicked—in one vast plain for the final reckoning. On that awesome Day, Allah will address those who committed shirk (associating partners with Him) and say to them: “Stay where you are—you and your so-called partners whom you worshipped besides Me. Do not move until you see what will be done with you.”
Then, Allah will separate the worshippers from the objects of their worship, cutting off every bond they had in the worldly life. At that moment, the false deities—be they idols, statues, or any being that was worshipped besides Allah—will disown their worshippers completely. They will declare: “We never asked you to worship us, nor did we command you to do so. You were not truly worshipping us—you were following your own desires and the whispers of Shaytan.”
This is a profound scene of regret and exposure. The very things people relied upon and revered in this world will abandon them in the Hereafter, leaving them with nothing but their deeds. It is a powerful reminder that only Allah—the One, the Self-Sufficient—deserves our worship, our love, and our devotion. No idol, no human, no power can intercede or benefit anyone on that Day except by Allah’s permission.
Dear believer, let this verse awaken your heart. Do not place your ultimate trust in anything or anyone besides Allah. The relationships we cherish and the status we chase in this world will all fade—but our connection with Allah, built through sincere worship and obedience, is what will remain and save us. Let us hasten to purify our faith, making it purely for Allah alone, so that when we stand before Him, we are among those who worshipped Him with sincerity and are granted His mercy and eternal reward.
