Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ala (أَلَا): A particle of alert and emphasis, drawing attention to an important truth.
- Wa'd Allah (وَعْدَ اللَّهِ): The promise of Allah, which includes reward for the believers and punishment for the disbelievers.
- Haqq (حَقٌّ): Truth, certainty, and something that is absolutely real and will inevitably come to pass.
- La ya'lamun (لَا يَعْلَمُونَ): They do not know — meaning they lack true knowledge and understanding of this reality.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Behold! Listen attentively, O humanity, to this profound and decisive truth: everything that exists in the heavens and the earth — every star, every planet, every creature, every treasure, every soul — belongs exclusively to Allah alone. Nothing is outside His dominion, and no one shares even an atom's weight of ownership with Him. He is the Sole Owner, the Absolute Sovereign, and the Disposer of all affairs. This is a reality that should fill the believer's heart with awe, humility, and gratitude.
And then comes the second emphatic declaration: indeed, the promise of Allah is true and certain. Whatever Allah has promised — whether it be the reward of Paradise for the righteous, the punishment of Hellfire for the wicked, the Day of Resurrection, or the meeting with Him — all of it is an absolute reality that will undoubtedly come to pass. No power can prevent it, no force can delay it, and no doubt can diminish its certainty. Allah's promise is not like the promises of human beings, which are often broken or unfulfilled; His word is final, His decree is executed, and His promise never fails.
Yet, despite this crystal-clear truth, most people do not know it. Their ignorance is not due to a lack of evidence, but rather to their turning away from reflection, their immersion in worldly desires, and their refusal to ponder over the signs of Allah spread throughout the heavens and the earth. They live as if this life is all there is, as if they will never stand before their Lord, and as if the promises of Allah are mere tales of the past.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause for a moment and contemplate: if everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, then why do we worry so much about what we possess or lack? Why do we fear the creation while the Creator of all things is our Lord and Protector? And if His promise is true and certain, then why do we not prepare for that inevitable meeting? Why do we not hasten to obey Him, seek His forgiveness, and strive for His pleasure?
This verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that our existence is not random, our lives are not without purpose, and our end is not annihilation. We are heading towards a meeting with our Lord, and His promise to us — whether of mercy or of justice — is guaranteed. The wise person is the one who lets this truth transform their heart, their actions, and their priorities. Let this knowledge be the light that guides you through the darkness of this world, and the comfort that calms your soul in times of hardship. For indeed, the One who owns the heavens and the earth is fully capable of fulfilling every promise He has made to you.
