Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Haqqat (حَقَّتْ): Became due, obligatory, or firmly established.
- Kalimatu Rabbika (كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ): The Word of your Lord — referring to His prior decree and judgment.
- La yu'minun (لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ): They will not believe — meaning they will never attain true faith.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse reveals a profound truth about divine decree and human will. Allah informs His Messenger (peace be upon him) that there are certain individuals upon whom the Word of your Lord has become due — meaning that divine judgment has already been pronounced against them, decreeing that they will persist in disbelief and die upon it, as a consequence of their own stubborn rejection of truth after it became clear to them.
These are people who have seen the signs, heard the message, and understood the proof, yet they deliberately turned away with arrogance and persistence in falsehood. Their hearts became sealed because of their continuous rejection, until the divine decree of their end was written — that they would be among the inhabitants of the Fire, as Allah says: "These are for the Fire, and I do not care" — meaning that His justice has been established against them.
The verse clarifies that such people will not believe, not because Allah forces them against their will, but because their own choices led them to a state where faith can no longer enter their hearts. They exhausted every opportunity, rejected every call, and opposed every messenger until the door of guidance was closed upon them by their own doing.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse carries a powerful reminder for every soul that still breathes. The door of repentance and faith remains open for you — so do not delay! The people described here are not those who erred once or twice, but those who persisted in rejection until the very end. Allah's mercy is vast, and His acceptance of repentance extends until the moment of death.
Let this verse awaken in you a sense of urgency. If you find any hardness in your heart toward faith, soften it now with remembrance of Allah, with sincere supplication, and with turning to His Book. Do not let yourself become among those whose fate was sealed while they were heedless. Every breath you take is an opportunity — seize it before it is too late.
The Qur'an calls you, the Prophet guides you, and the creation around you testifies to its Creator. Open your heart, and you will find the light of faith illuminating your path. For indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.
