Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Al-Farash (الْفَرَاشِ): Moths or locusts-like insects that flutter aimlessly and are drawn to fire, often falling into it. It refers to the small, weak creatures that scatter in confusion.
- Al-Mabthooth (الْمَبْثُوثِ): Scattered, dispersed, or spread out in all directions, like a swarm with no order or cohesion.
Explanation of the Verse:
On that Day—the Day of the Striking Calamity that terrifies hearts and overwhelms minds—people will emerge from their graves in a state of utter chaos and helplessness. They will be like moths scattered in the air, swarming in every direction without purpose or order, driven by fear and confusion. Just as moths are irresistibly drawn to the flame and flutter into it, unaware of their fate, so too will humanity be driven toward the reckoning, stumbling and dispersing in bewilderment. This vivid imagery captures the sheer scale of the multitude, their weakness before the power of Allah, and the loss of any sense of direction or control. No one will be able to guide another, and every soul will be consumed by its own terror, rushing aimlessly yet inevitably toward the divine judgment.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound wake-up call, beloved believer. It paints a picture of that inevitable moment when all worldly ties, ranks, and comforts vanish, and every human—rich or poor, strong or weak—becomes like fragile moths before the blazing truth of Allah’s justice. Imagine the scene: a swarm of creatures, each one lost, scattered, and helpless. This is not meant to frighten you into despair, but to awaken your heart to the reality that this life is a fleeting test, and the Hereafter is the eternal destination. The same Allah who created you with purpose and guided you through the Qur’an is now calling you to prepare—through faith, good deeds, and sincere repentance—so that on that Day, you are not among the scattered and confused, but among those who meet their Lord with a tranquil heart, secure in His mercy. Let this imagery inspire you to turn to Allah now, while you still have time, and to live each moment as one who knows the Day of Qari'ah is real and near. The door of repentance is open, and His mercy is vaster than your sins—so rush to Him before that Day when no scattering or gathering will avail you, and only your deeds will speak for you.
