Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Wa-ntaẓirū (Wait/await): This is a command to wait, anticipate, and watch for what is to come. It carries a tone of challenge and patient expectation.
  • Innā muntaẓirūn (Indeed, we are waiting): A declaration of mutual anticipation, affirming that the believers are equally awaiting the outcome.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this concluding verse of Surah Hud, Allah commands His Messenger (peace be upon him) to address the disbelievers who rejected the message, opposed the truth, and harmed the believers: "Wait and see!" This is not a passive or weak statement—it is a powerful declaration of certainty and confidence. The believers are told to await the outcome of this struggle, just as the disbelievers await theirs. However, the two sides are not equal in what they anticipate.

The disbelievers wait, hoping for the failure of Islam and the downfall of the believers. But the believers wait with full conviction in Allah’s promise of victory, support, and justice. They await the fulfillment of Allah’s decree—whether it be triumph in this world through the establishment of truth, or the ultimate justice in the Hereafter, where every soul will be recompensed for what it earned.

This verse serves as a stern warning and a veiled threat to the disbelievers: their plots, arrogance, and persistence in falsehood will not go unanswered. Allah’s help is near, and His punishment is certain for those who persist in transgression. At the same time, it is a source of immense comfort and strength for the believers—a reminder that they are not alone, that their patience is not in vain, and that the final victory belongs to the righteous.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson in steadfastness and trust in Allah. When you are upon the truth, you do not need to fear the schemes of others—you simply do your part with sincerity and leave the results to Allah. The believer’s confidence is not in their own strength, but in the promise of the All-Powerful. So, dear reader, if you find yourself facing opposition for the sake of truth, take heart: the wait is not long, and the reward is immense. Allah never abandons those who stand firm upon His path. Let this verse ignite in you a spirit of patient perseverance and unshakable hope—for the end is always for the God-fearing.

📜 Verse 120-123 — Hud

And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart. And there has come to you, in this, the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers.
121وَقُل لِّلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ اعْمَلُوا عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنَّا عَامِلُونَ
And say to those who do not believe, "Work according to your position; indeed, we are working.
122وَانتَظِرُوا إِنَّا مُنتَظِرُونَ
And wait, indeed, we are waiting."
And to Allah belong the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and to Him will be returned the matter, all of it, so worship Him and rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of that which you do.
