Word Meanings:
- Ghayb (غَيْبُ): The unseen, that which is hidden from the perception of created beings.
- Yurja'u (يُرْجَعُ): Will be returned and referred back.
- Tawakkul (تَوَكَّلْ): To rely upon, trust in, and entrust one's affairs to someone.
Explanation of the Verse:
To Allah alone belongs the knowledge of all that is hidden in the heavens and the earth — every secret, every concealed matter, every unseen reality that no creature can perceive. Nothing escapes His knowledge, whether it is in the highest heavens or the depths of the earth. And to Him alone will the entire affair be returned on the Day of Resurrection; all matters, great and small, will ultimately revert to Him for judgment and recompense.
Therefore, O Prophet, and O believer, worship Him alone — dedicate your worship, your devotion, and your obedience purely to Him. And place your trust in Him, entrusting all your affairs to His care, for He is sufficient for those who rely upon Him. Your Lord is never unaware of what you do — He sees all your deeds, whether good or evil, and He will reward or recompense each person according to what they have earned.
This verse carries a profound message of hope and accountability. It reminds us that our Lord, who knows every hidden secret of the universe, is also fully aware of our personal struggles, our sincere efforts, and our quiet acts of worship. Nothing we do — no matter how small or hidden — escapes His sight. This should fill the believer's heart with comfort and reassurance: your Lord sees your efforts, He knows your intentions, and He will never let your good deeds go to waste. At the same time, it is a gentle yet firm warning that we are accountable for our actions, and that justice will surely be served on the Day when all affairs return to Him.
So let this verse inspire you to worship with sincerity, to trust in Allah with complete confidence, and to live your life with the beautiful awareness that your Lord is always watching over you — not to catch you in a mistake, but to reward you for every step of goodness you take. Indeed, what a comforting thought it is that the Creator of the heavens and the earth is never heedless of His servants' deeds.
