Explanation of the Verse:
O my people, continue to do whatever you are able to do according to your own way and approach — persist in your disbelief, your rejection, and your plots against me. As for me, I will continue to work according to my way — the way of truth and monotheism that my Lord has granted me — with steadfastness and sincerity. Very soon, you will come to know with absolute certainty which of us will be visited by a punishment that brings disgrace and humiliation in this world, and which of us is the liar in what he claims. Is it me, who calls you to the worship of Allah alone, or is it you, who persist in falsehood and stubbornness? So wait and watch for what will befall you, for I too am waiting and watching alongside you, anticipating the decree of my Lord.
This is a powerful and dignified warning from Prophet Shu'ayb (peace be upon him) to his people — a final, clear declaration that leaves no room for ambiguity. He does not threaten them with his own power, but rather places the matter entirely in the hands of Allah, the All-Knowing, the Just. He tells them: the truth will manifest itself, and the punishment will come to whoever deserves it.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson in patience, steadfastness, and reliance upon Allah. When you are upon the truth, you do not need to argue endlessly or despair over the rejection of others. Your duty is simply to convey the message with clarity, to remain firm upon your path, and to leave the results to Allah. The believer's confidence is not in his own ability to convince, but in Allah's promise to support the truth and humiliate falsehood.
Notice the beautiful balance in Shu'ayb's words: he does not curse his people or wish evil upon them personally — rather, he states the reality that the punishment will come to whoever is deserving of it, whether from his side or theirs. This is the character of the true believer: even in confrontation, there is fairness and justice.
And when you are upon the truth, you can face any opposition with tranquility, because you know that the final victory belongs to Allah and His messengers. So hold firm, dear believer, to what you know is right, and let the passage of time prove the truthfulness of your words. Allah never abandons those who sincerely strive for His cause.
