Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound moment of trial, the noble wife of the Aziz (the chief minister of Egypt) — the woman in whose house Yusuf (Joseph) lived — revealed the passion she had long concealed. She approached him with soft words and cunning allure, seeking to draw him into a grave sin. Having already closed and locked all the doors to ensure complete privacy, she said plainly: "Come to me." The scene was set for one of the greatest tests of faith ever recorded in human history.
But Yusuf, peace be upon him, stood as a towering example of purity and God-consciousness. He did not hesitate, nor did he waver. He immediately declared: "I seek refuge with Allah!" — turning to his Lord for protection from the temptation placed before him. He then gave his reasoning: "Indeed, he (my master) is my lord; he has made my stay excellent." Yusuf remembered the kindness of the man who had taken him in, honored him, and given him a dignified life. To betray that trust would be an act of profound ingratitude and injustice. He concluded with a timeless truth: "Indeed, the wrongdoers will never succeed."
This verse teaches us that true success lies not in satisfying fleeting desires, but in upholding integrity, gratitude, and moral excellence. Yusuf's response was not merely a rejection of sin — it was a declaration of principle. He understood that betraying his master's trust, violating the sanctity of the home, and disobeying Allah could never lead to true happiness, no matter how tempting the moment appeared.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this story is not merely history — it is a living lesson for every soul that faces temptation. Yusuf was a young man, far from his family, in a foreign land, with every door closed and every means of escape seemingly blocked. Yet he found the greatest escape of all: the remembrance of Allah and the awareness that Allah sees all. When no human eye could see him, he knew that Allah's eye was upon him.
If you ever find yourself in a moment of weakness, remember Yusuf's words: "I seek refuge with Allah!" Let this be your shield. Know that no pleasure gained through disobedience can ever match the peace of a heart that remains pure. And know that Allah's promise is true: the wrongdoers never succeed — but those who fear Him and restrain themselves will find a way out, just as Allah later elevated Yusuf to a position of honor and power in that very land where he was once tested.
Let this verse inspire you to hold firm to your values, to be grateful to those who have shown you kindness, and to trust that Allah's protection is greater than any temptation. For indeed, the path of righteousness — though sometimes difficult — leads to true success in this life and the Hereafter.
