Tafsir (Explanation):
When Yusuf (Joseph) reached the prime of his youth—around thirty-three years of age, when his body and mind were at their fullest strength—Allah bestowed upon him two immense gifts: *hukman* (wisdom and prophethood) and *ilman* (profound knowledge and understanding). This was not a random favor but a reward for his steadfastness, purity, and excellence in worship. Allah says: “And thus We reward the doers of good”—meaning that just as He honored Yusuf for his ihsan (excellence in faith and conduct), He honors every sincere servant who strives to perfect their obedience to Him.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: true strength is not merely physical, but spiritual and intellectual. Yusuf’s excellence lay in his patience, his fear of Allah, and his unwavering trust in Him—even in the face of trials. His reward came not only in this world but in the elevation of his rank as a prophet and a guide for humanity.
For the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, this verse was a source of immense comfort. It assured him that just as Allah had protected, guided, and elevated Yusuf through his trials, He would do the same for him and for every believer who remains steadfast in goodness. The path of ihsan—doing what is beautiful in worship, character, and dealings—is never wasted in Allah’s sight.
A Call to Excellence:
Dear believer, let this verse ignite in your heart the desire to be among the *muhsinin*. Excellence is not about perfection in worldly terms; it is about sincerity in your prayers, honesty in your dealings, kindness in your words, and patience in your trials. When you beautify your faith with action, Allah beautifies your life with His care and wisdom. No good deed is ever lost, and no sincere heart is ever abandoned. Strive, therefore, to be like Yusuf—pure in heart, firm in faith, and radiant in character—and trust that Allah’s reward for the doers of good is beyond your imagination.
