Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- لَا جَرَمَ (Lā Jarama): Truly, undoubtedly, or certainly — an emphatic expression affirming the truth of what follows.
- الْخَاسِرُونَ (Al-Khāsirūn): The losers — those who have incurred loss, ruin, and destruction, having squandered their true capital (their faith and their souls).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse delivers a decisive and emphatic verdict concerning those who renounce faith after having believed — and who persist in disbelief while engaging in hostility toward the believers. The expression "lā jarama" leaves no room for doubt: it is an absolute certainty, not a mere possibility. These people, who traded their guidance for misguidance and their faith for disbelief, are — in the Hereafter — the true losers. Their loss is not a trivial or temporary one; rather, it is a comprehensive and catastrophic loss: they lose their souls, their deeds, their hopes, and their eternal abodes. They spent their lives in what brought them only torment and ruin, and they forfeited Paradise, which they could have entered had they held fast to their faith. On the Day of Judgment, they will stand before their Lord empty-handed, with no good deeds to their credit, no intercessor to save them, and no refuge to protect them. Their loss is made even more painful by the fact that they had once possessed the key to success — faith — and then threw it away with their own hands.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: the greatest loss a human being can ever suffer is not the loss of wealth, health, or worldly status — for all of these are temporary and can be regained or replaced. The greatest loss is the loss of one's own soul and one's eternal happiness in the Hereafter. How many people today chase after the fleeting pleasures of this world, only to discover — when it is too late — that they have sold their eternal bliss for a handful of dust? Islam calls you to a life of purpose, peace, and certainty. It invites you to hold fast to the rope of Allah, to nurture your faith, and to secure your place in an everlasting Paradise where joy never fades and where no sorrow ever touches the heart. Do not let the whispers of doubt or the temptations of this world rob you of the most precious treasure you possess: your faith. For the one who loses faith has lost everything, while the one who preserves it has gained everything — in this life and the next. Open your heart to the light of the Qur'an, and you will find a peace that no worldly pleasure can ever match, and a success that no material gain can ever equal.
