Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- اتَّقَوا (ittaqaw): Those who are mindful of Allah, guarding themselves against His displeasure by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.
- مُّحْسِنُونَ (muhsinūn): Those who excel in their deeds, performing acts of worship and obedience with sincerity, perfection, and excellence.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the Exalted, declares that He is with those who are mindful of Him — those who protect themselves from sin by fulfilling His commandments and abstaining from what He has forbidden. He is also with those who excel in goodness — those who perform their duties toward Him with utmost sincerity, precision, and devotion, striving to perfect their worship and their dealings with others.
This divine companionship is not merely a physical presence, but a profound and special support: Allah grants them His victory, guidance, protection, and aid. He stands by them in times of hardship, strengthens them in moments of weakness, and blesses their efforts with success. When a believer combines taqwa (God-consciousness) with ihsan (excellence in action), they attain a station where Allah’s care surrounds them — a promise of security, triumph, and divine favor in this life and the Hereafter.
A Call to Reflection:
What greater honor could a servant hope for than to have the Lord of the heavens and the earth as their Companion and Protector? This verse is a beacon of hope for every believer — it teaches us that no matter how difficult our circumstances, Allah’s support is never distant from those who strive to please Him. It invites us to purify our hearts from sin and to beautify our actions with sincerity and excellence. Let this be a motivation for you: whenever you feel alone or overwhelmed, remember that Allah is with those who fear Him and do good. Turn to Him, strengthen your taqwa, and perfect your deeds — and you will find His help and victory by your side, in ways you never imagined. This is the path of true success, both in this world and in the eternal life to come.
