Explanation of the Verse:
By Allah, the Almighty takes a solemn oath to affirm a profound truth to you, O Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): just as He sent you to your people, He sent messengers to many nations before you. Yet, those nations rejected their messengers and fell into disbelief. The root cause of their downfall was that Satan made their evil deeds appear appealing to them — he beautified their acts of polytheism, disbelief, and disobedience in their eyes, so they saw falsehood as truth and corruption as righteousness. They followed their whims, believing they were on the right path, while in reality they were drowning in misguidance.
Because they willingly embraced Satan’s deception, he became their ally and protector in this worldly life — but this alliance is utterly worthless. On the Day of Judgment, when they will desperately need a savior, Satan will abandon them, for he is powerless even to save himself. He cannot help them in the slightest, and his false promises will vanish like a mirage. Instead of any deliverance, they will face a painful, agonizing punishment in the Hereafter — a torment that will never be lifted from them.
This verse carries a powerful lesson for every believer: never be deceived by the allure of sin, for Satan’s embellishments are nothing but a trap leading to ruin. The fleeting pleasure of wrongdoing is followed by eternal regret. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent messengers with clear guidance to rescue humanity from this deception. Whoever heeds the call of truth will find true success, while whoever follows the whispers of Satan will taste the bitter fruit of their choices. Let this be a reminder to hold firmly to the rope of Allah, for His path is the only path to everlasting peace and salvation.
