Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Anzala": Sent down, brought forth from above.
- "Min al-sama'": From the sky or the heavens (here referring to rain clouds).
- "Ma'an": Water — specifically, rain.
- "Ahya": Brought to life, revived, made alive.
- "Mawtiha": Its death — meaning the barrenness and dryness of the earth.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Exalted, reminds His servants of one of His greatest signs: He sends down rain from the sky, and with that single, humble substance — water — He revives the earth after it has become lifeless, cracked, and barren. The dry soil that seemed dead suddenly bursts forth with green vegetation, plants, fruits, and life in all its forms. This is not a random act of nature; it is the deliberate, powerful work of the Creator, who alone has the ability to give life and take it away.
In this remarkable transformation lies a clear and profound sign — a proof of Allah's perfect power and His absolute oneness. Just as He revives the dead earth with rain, He is fully capable of resurrecting all of humanity after death for the Day of Judgment. The One who gives life to the soil can certainly give life to the bodies of the deceased.
This sign, however, is only truly appreciated by people who listen — not merely with their ears, but with their hearts and minds. They listen to the Qur'an and the call of truth with sincere attention, reflection, and a desire to understand. They do not turn away arrogantly; rather, they ponder the verses of Allah and draw lessons from the world around them. Such people recognize the Creator's handiwork in every drop of rain and every sprouting seed, and they respond with faith, obedience, and gratitude.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, look at the world around you. Have you ever stood and watched the rain fall upon dry, cracked earth? Have you seen how, within days, that same land turns lush and green? This is not magic — it is the mercy of your Lord, who sends down water as a provision for His creation. If you truly listen — with an open heart — you will hear the message of your Creator calling you to Him. He who revives the earth can revive your heart with faith. He who brings life to the soil can bring life to your soul through guidance. Do not let your heart remain dry and barren like the dead earth. Open it to the rain of divine guidance, and you will find life, peace, and purpose. This is the sign for those who truly hear.
