Word Meanings:

  • Al-An'am (الأنعام): Cattle, specifically camels, cows, and sheep.
  • 'Ibrah (عبرة): A profound lesson, a moral to be learned, something that makes one reflect and draw wisdom.
  • Farth (فرث): The digested fodder and waste material in the stomach/intestines of the animal.

  • Sa'igh (سائغ): Easy to swallow, palatable, pleasant to drink.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

O mankind, Allah in His infinite mercy and wisdom draws your attention to a magnificent sign that is right before your eyes—the cattle that you rear, tend, and benefit from daily. In these humble creatures lies a profound lesson for anyone who reflects with an open heart and a sound mind.

Consider this miracle: We—your Lord, the Creator of all things—give you to drink, from within the bellies of these animals, pure and wholesome milk. This milk emerges from between two seemingly incompatible substances: the *farth* (the digested waste and fodder in the stomach) and the blood that flows through the animal's body. Yet, by the perfect power and design of Allah, the milk comes forth completely pure—white, clean, and untainted by any trace of blood or filth, neither in color, nor taste, nor smell. It is not mixed with anything that would spoil it, despite being in such close proximity to these impurities within the animal's body.

And not only is it pure, but it is also *sa'igh*—sweet, pleasant, and easy to swallow, a delight for those who drink it. It does not choke the throat or cause discomfort; rather, it is a source of nourishment, refreshment, and joy.

This is a living miracle of Allah's creation, a daily reminder of His boundless power and His immense kindness toward His servants. He could have made this milk bitter or foul, but He made it pure and delicious for you. So reflect, O believer: if Allah can extract this pure, wholesome drink from between waste and blood, then He is certainly capable of bringing forth goodness, mercy, and provision from the most unlikely of circumstances in your own life. Trust in Him, for He is the One who turns the ordinary into the extraordinary, and who provides for you from places you could never imagine. Let this sight increase your faith, fill your heart with gratitude, and draw you closer to your Creator, who has subjected all of this for your benefit out of His perfect love and wisdom.
