Word Meanings:

  • Shākilatihi (شَاكِلَتِهِ): His way, manner, disposition, or natural inclination. It refers to the unique path and approach that a person adopts based on their character, beliefs, and intentions.
  • Ahdā sabīlan (أَهْدَى سَبِيلًا): More rightly guided in path; clearer and more correct in way.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, say to all people: Every one of you acts according to his own way, inclination, and nature. The believer acts in accordance with faith, sincerity, and obedience to Allah, while the disbeliever and the sinner act in accordance with their disbelief, stubbornness, and desires. Each person's deeds reflect the state of their heart and the path they have chosen for themselves.

Then Allah says: Your Lord knows best who among you is more rightly guided in path and who is more astray. He is fully aware of the true reality of every person's deeds, intentions, and ultimate end. No one can hide anything from Him, and He will judge each person fairly according to their works.

This verse carries a profound lesson: it establishes the principle of personal responsibility. Every human being is accountable for their own choices and actions. No one can blame another for their own deviation, nor can anyone claim credit for another's guidance. The Prophet ﷺ is commanded to deliver this message clearly and then leave the matter to Allah's perfect knowledge and justice.

A Call to Reflection and Sincerity:

Dear reader, pause and reflect: What is your *shākilah* — your way and inclination? Are you among those whose path leads to Allah's pleasure, or have you allowed your desires to steer you away from the straight path? This verse invites you to examine yourself honestly and to realign your intentions and actions with what pleases your Lord.

The beauty of Islam is that it does not force anyone; rather, it presents the truth clearly and leaves the choice to you. Yet, it also reminds you that you will reap what you sow. If you choose the path of guidance, you will find peace in this life and success in the Hereafter. If you choose otherwise, you will face the consequences of your own choices.

Let this verse be a turning point for you. Ask Allah to guide you to the clearest path, and strive sincerely to make your way one that leads to His mercy and eternal bliss. For indeed, your Lord knows your efforts, your struggles, and your sincere intentions — and He is the Most Just, the Most Merciful.

📜 Verse 82-86 — Al-Isra

And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.
And when We bestow favor upon the disbeliever, he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he is ever despairing.
Say, "Each works according to his manner, but your Lord is most knowing of who is best guided in way."
And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little."
And if We willed, We could surely do away with that which We revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself concerning it an advocate against Us.
