Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Jazā'uhum — their recompense or reward (in this context, punishment).
- Āyātī — My signs, proofs, and revelations (the verses of the Qur'an and the miracles given to the prophets).
- Rusulī — My messengers (the prophets sent by Allah to guide humanity).
- Huzu'an — mockery, ridicule, and derision.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse concludes the fate of those whose deeds have been rendered worthless — a description mentioned in the preceding verses. Their recompense is Hellfire, and this is not an injustice from Allah, but a direct consequence of their own choices. The reason is twofold: first, they disbelieved in Allah, rejecting His oneness and His command; second, they took His signs — the clear revelations, the miracles, and the messengers He sent — as objects of mockery and ridicule. They did not merely ignore the truth; they actively scorned it, laughing at the guidance sent for their own salvation.
This verse serves as a stern warning that disbelief combined with mockery of divine truth leads to the most severe punishment. The Qur'an repeatedly emphasizes that the messengers were mocked by their peoples throughout history, yet the mockers were ultimately destroyed, while the believers were saved. The severity of the punishment matches the severity of the crime: to mock the very means of guidance that could have saved them is to cut oneself off from mercy entirely.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. The Qur'an and the messengers are not mere historical accounts — they are living signs from your Lord, calling you to success in this life and the next. Do not let your heart become hardened, nor your tongue accustomed to jesting about sacred matters. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance for you until the moment of death. If you find in yourself any trace of mockery or indifference toward His signs, turn back to Him now with sincerity. He accepts those who repent and forgives all sins. The gates of Paradise are wide open for those who believe and do righteous deeds — will you not be among them? Choose the path of honor and eternal bliss over the path of regret and fire.
