Surah Al-Kahf — Verse 95

Tafsir (Explanation):

Dhul-Qarnayn, the righteous king, responded to the people who had asked him to build a barrier against Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj). He said: "What my Lord has established me with — from sovereignty, power, and abundant resources — is far better than the wealth you are offering me." He did not seek material gain; rather, his intention was purely for the sake of Allah and the welfare of the people. He then asked them to assist him with physical strength — meaning men, tools, and labor — so that he could construct a mighty dam between them and their oppressors. He did not ask for payment, but for cooperation and effort, showing his noble character and sincere leadership.

Da’wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson in selflessness and reliance on Allah. Dhul-Qarnayn was a leader who used his God-given power to serve others, not to enrich himself. He reminds us that whatever Allah grants us — whether wealth, knowledge, or authority — is a trust to be used for good. When we help others, we should do so with pure intentions, seeking Allah’s reward rather than worldly compensation. The people’s willingness to contribute their strength and resources, and Dhul-Qarnayn’s humble acceptance of their help, shows the beauty of cooperation in righteousness.
