Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, we witness the remarkable engineering and leadership of Dhul-Qarnayn, a righteous king whom Allah had granted power and means. After building the foundation of the barrier between the two mountains, he commanded his people: "Bring me blocks of iron." They complied, and he began stacking these massive iron pieces between the two mountain slopes, layer upon layer, until he had filled the gap completely and leveled it with the mountain tops.
When the iron reached the exact height of both mountain sides, he ordered his workers: "Blow the fire!" They ignited a massive furnace around the iron, using bellows to intensify the heat. The iron glowed and became like fire itself—red-hot and molten. At that moment, Dhul-Qarnayn said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." The liquid copper was poured over the red-hot iron, seeping into every gap and binding the iron blocks together into a single, impenetrable, solid mass—stronger than iron alone.
This verse teaches us profound lessons about wisdom, patience, and the proper use of power. Dhul-Qarnayn did not simply build a wall; he used the best materials and techniques available, combining iron with copper to create a barrier that would protect a vulnerable people from the corruption of Gog and Magog. He was a leader who used his God-given authority to serve humanity, not to oppress or exploit.
For us today, this story inspires us to use our own God-given abilities, knowledge, and resources to build and protect—whether that means safeguarding our families, serving our communities, or defending what is right. It reminds us that true strength lies not in domination, but in mercy, justice, and the wise management of what Allah has entrusted to us. When we act with sincerity and skill, seeking Allah's pleasure, He blesses our efforts and makes them enduring—just as this barrier stood as a mercy for that people until the appointed time.
