Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, remember and remind the people of that blessed moment when Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Prophet Isma'il (Ishmael), peace be upon them, were raising the very foundations of the Sacred House—the Ka'bah—in Makkah. As they labored with their hands, lifting stone upon stone, their hearts were lifted in humble devotion to their Lord. They did not rely on their own efforts or feel proud of their great achievement; rather, they turned to Allah with complete humility and submission, saying: "Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing of our supplications and the All-Knowing of our intentions and deeds."
This verse captures a profound moment of faith and sincerity. Despite being two of the greatest prophets of Allah, chosen and beloved, they still feared that their deeds might not be accepted. They understood that acceptance is not guaranteed by the greatness of the deed itself, but by the grace and mercy of Allah. Their supplication teaches us that no matter how righteous or significant our actions may be—whether building a mosque, giving charity, or performing any act of worship—we must always combine our efforts with humility and a heartfelt plea for Allah's acceptance.
The phrase "Our Lord, accept from us" reveals the essence of a believer's heart: one that is never self-satisfied, never arrogant about its worship, but always yearning for Allah's pleasure. They acknowledged that Allah is As-Sami', hearing every word they utter, and Al-'Alim, knowing every hidden intention and secret thought. This is a beautiful reminder that Allah is fully aware of our struggles and sincerity, and He rewards even the smallest efforts made purely for His sake.
Da'wah (Call to Allah):
Dear believer, look at the example of Ibrahim and Isma'il—two mighty prophets who built the most sacred house on earth, yet they stood before Allah as humble servants, begging for acceptance. If they felt this way, how much more should we—who are full of shortcomings—turn to Allah with humility after every good deed? Let this verse inspire you to never feel proud of your worship, but instead to constantly say: "Our Lord, accept from us." This is the key to sincerity (ikhlas), and it is the way to draw closer to Allah. When you pray, give charity, fast, or do any good deed, accompany it with this beautiful supplication. And know with certainty that Allah, who heard the call of Ibrahim and Isma'il, hears your call too. He is As-Sami' and Al-'Alim—He hears your whispered prayers and knows the purity of your heart. So, raise your hands to Him with hope and fear, and He will surely accept from you, for His mercy encompasses all things.
