Word Meanings:

  • Fasbir (فاصبر): Be patient, endure with steadfastness and perseverance.
  • Sabbih (سبّح): Glorify and exalt Allah, and in this context, it refers to performing the prayers.
  • Bi-hamdi Rabbika (بحمد ربك): While praising your Lord, meaning you combine glorification with gratitude.
  • Ānā’ al-layl (آناء الليل): The hours of the night; the plural of *inā’*, meaning periods or segments of time.
  • Atrāf an-nahār (أطراف النهار): The two ends of the day, referring to the morning and afternoon periods.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger of Allah, remain patient in the face of the false accusations, mockery, and harmful words that the disbelievers utter against you. Do not let their rejection and insults disturb your heart or turn you away from your mission. Their words are nothing but falsehood, and Allah is fully aware of their schemes.

Alongside this patience, Allah commands you to engage in the remembrance and glorification of your Lord through the prescribed prayers at their appointed times. Glorify your Lord with praise in the Fajr prayer before sunrise, and in the Asr prayer before sunset. Glorify Him in the hours of the night through the Maghrib and Isha prayers, and in the two ends of the day through the Dhuhr prayer at midday and the Maghrib prayer at the close of the day. These five daily prayers cover the entire span of day and night, keeping the believer constantly connected to his Lord.

The purpose of this command is that through this patience and devotion, you will attain such abundant reward and honour from your Lord that you will be fully pleased and satisfied. Allah will grant you victory, elevate your rank, and give you more than enough to make your heart content.

A Da‘wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: when faced with hardship, mockery, or rejection, the cure is not despair or retaliation—it is patience and prayer. The five daily prayers are not merely rituals; they are spiritual anchors that steady the soul, purify the heart, and draw you closer to Allah. Imagine standing before your Lord five times a day, glorifying Him with praise, seeking His help, and renewing your trust in His promise. This is the path to inner peace and ultimate contentment. Allah promises that if you remain patient and steadfast in worship, you will reach a state of *ridā*—a deep, lasting satisfaction that no worldly comfort can provide. So hold firm to your prayers, for they are the light that guides you through the darkest trials, and the key to a heart at peace.

📜 Verse 128-132 — Taha

Then, has it not become clear to them how many generations We destroyed before them as they walk among their dwellings? Indeed in that are signs for those of intelligence.
And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, punishment would have been an obligation [due immediately], and [if not for] a specified term [decreed].
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.
