Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Qawl (الْقَوْل): The speech, statement, or saying — whether spoken aloud or kept secret within oneself.
- Al-Samee' (السَّمِيعُ): The All-Hearing — He hears every sound, every whisper, and every hidden word without any need for ears or instruments.
- Al-'Aleem (الْعَلِيمُ): The All-Knowing — His knowledge encompasses everything, both apparent and hidden, in all times and places.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When the disbelievers mocked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and accused him of falsehood, he did not argue with them in anger or desperation. Instead, he calmly referred the matter back to his Lord, the Most High, saying: "My Lord knows every word spoken in the heavens and the earth."
This statement carries a profound meaning: Allah (Glorified be He) is fully aware of every utterance that escapes the lips of any creature — whether it is said in the highest heavens or the deepest corners of the earth. Nothing escapes His hearing, and nothing is hidden from His knowledge. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was essentially telling them: "You may say what you wish, and you may plot in secret, but know that my Lord hears every word you speak and knows every intention you harbor. He is the All-Hearing of your statements and the All-Knowing of your deeds — and He will surely hold you accountable for all of it."
This verse serves as a powerful reminder and a warning. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was not merely informing them of Allah's attributes; he was delivering a message of both comfort and threat. Comfort for the believers, who know that their Lord hears their supplications and knows their struggles. And a threat for the disbelievers, who may think they can hide their schemes and false accusations — but Allah is ever watchful over them, and their words are recorded, and they will face the consequences.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this beautiful truth: the Lord of the heavens and the earth — the One who created the galaxies, the stars, and the vast universe — He hears *your* words. When you call upon Him in the stillness of the night, He hears you. When you whisper your fears and hopes to Him, He knows. And when others speak ill of you or plot against you, He hears that too, and He is the Best of Judges.
This is the essence of tawheed (monotheism) — to know that Allah is always present in His knowledge and hearing. So, let this verse fill your heart with tranquility. You are never alone. Your Lord is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. Turn to Him with your concerns, trust in His justice, and know that every word you speak — whether good or bad — is heard by the One who will reward you for your patience and hold others accountable for their wrongs. What a beautiful religion that connects the servant directly to his Creator, with no intermediary and no barrier!
