Word Meanings:

  • Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog): Two mighty tribes mentioned in the Qur'an and authentic prophetic traditions, known for their immense corruption and power. They are currently confined behind a barrier built by Dhul-Qarnayn.
  • Hadab: A raised or elevated place on the earth, such as hills, mountains, or highlands.
  • Yansilun: To come out swiftly and rapidly, pouring forth in great numbers with haste and urgency.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse paints a vivid scene from the end of time, drawing our attention to one of the greatest signs preceding the Hour. Allah informs us that the release of Ya'juj and Ma'juj will not occur until the appointed time decreed by Him—a time that no one knows except Allah. When that moment arrives, the barrier that has held these formidable nations for centuries will be broken, and they will surge forth from every elevated place on earth, pouring down like a flood in immense multitudes, moving with incredible speed and overwhelming force.

Their emergence marks a turning point in human history, a prelude to the final trials of this world. From the highlands and mountains, they will spread across the land, leaving destruction in their wake, until Allah, in His perfect wisdom, destroys them all in a single night by His will, as mentioned in other verses and prophetic narrations.

This description serves as a powerful reminder of Allah's absolute control over all creation. The same Allah who sealed them behind an impregnable barrier will, at His command, release them in an instant. Nothing happens except by His will, and His decree is inevitable. For the believers, this is a call to remain steadfast in faith, to prepare for the Hereafter, and to never become attached to the fleeting comforts of this world, for its end is nearer than we think.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder deeply on this scene: nations that no power on earth could contain, bursting forth from every hill and valley—yet they are but a sign of a far greater reality: the Day of Judgment. If the release of Gog and Magog is certain, then the meeting with your Lord is even more certain. Do not let your heart be heedless of this truth. Today, you have the opportunity to turn to Allah, to seek His forgiveness, and to prepare for that Day when no soul will benefit from its deeds except those done in faith and righteousness. The Qur'an does not narrate these events to frighten you aimlessly, but to awaken you from the slumber of negligence and to guide you to the path of eternal success. Embrace the message of Islam, hold fast to the rope of Allah, and let the remembrance of these signs increase your devotion and sincerity. For the one who prepares for the Hour will find peace in this life and the next, while the one who ignores it will face regret that will never end.

📜 Verse 94-98 — Al-Anbiya

So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer - no denial will there be for his effort, and indeed We, of it, are recorders.
And there is prohibition upon [the people of] a city which We have destroyed that they will [ever] return
Until when [the dam of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend
And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers."
Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you worship other than Allah are the firewood of Hell. You will be coming to [enter] it.
