Key Words and Phrases:

  • "Lahu ma fi al-samawati wa ma fi al-ard" (His is whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth): Everything in existence, from the vast galaxies to the smallest particles, belongs to Allah alone as His creation, His property, and His servants.
  • "Al-Ghaniyy" (The Self-Sufficient, The Rich): The One who is absolutely free of all needs, wants, or dependencies on anyone or anything.
  • "Al-Hameed" (The Praiseworthy): The One who deserves all praise and gratitude for His perfect attributes and magnificent actions.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse draws our attention to the ultimate reality of existence: that everything in the heavens — the sun, the moon, the stars, the angels — and everything on earth — the mountains, the oceans, the animals, and all of humanity — belongs to Allah alone. He is their Creator, their Owner, and their Sustainer. Every single being in existence is in a state of complete dependence upon Him, while He depends on no one.

Then Allah emphasizes a profound truth: "And indeed, Allah — He is the Self-Sufficient, the Praiseworthy." He is Al-Ghaniyy — the One whose essence is utterly free from any need. He does not need our worship, our obedience, or our gratitude. He does not need anything from His creation whatsoever. Yet, despite His absolute independence, He is Al-Hameed — the One who is deserving of all praise, not because He needs our praise, but because His perfect attributes and His countless blessings make Him inherently worthy of it.

This verse carries a beautiful and liberating message for every believer. When you realize that Allah is completely self-sufficient, you understand that your worship is not a favor you do for Him — rather, it is a gift He gives to you. Your prayers, your charity, your fasting — all of these are means of purification and elevation for your own soul. Allah does not gain anything from your obedience, nor does He lose anything from your disobedience.

Yet, He is Al-Hameed — the Praiseworthy. Every breath you take, every heartbeat, every blessing you enjoy is from His bounty. He feeds you while He is not hungry, He clothes you while He is not naked, He protects you while He is not vulnerable. And in return, He asks you only to know Him, to love Him, and to worship Him — not for His benefit, but for your own eternal happiness.

So let this verse fill your heart with hope and gratitude. You are connected to a Lord who is infinitely rich and infinitely generous. He does not need your worship, but He accepts it with immense reward. He does not need your supplication, but He promises to answer it. He does not need your love, but He showers you with His mercy. How beautiful is this relationship! You are the one in need, and He is the One who fulfills all needs. You are the one who is poor, and He is the One who is infinitely rich. And despite your shortcomings, He remains Al-Hameed — praising you, forgiving you, and loving you when you turn to Him.

Let this verse be a reminder that your entire existence is in the hands of the Most Generous, the Most Praiseworthy. So turn to Him with a humble heart, thank Him with a grateful tongue, and worship Him with a sincere soul — for He is the One who deserves all praise, now and forever.

📜 Verse 62-66 — Al-Hajj

That is because Allah is the Truth, and that which they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand.
Do you not see that Allah has sent down rain from the sky and the earth becomes green? Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted.
To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. And indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
Do you not see that Allah has subjected to you whatever is on the earth and the ships which run through the sea by His command? And He restrains the sky from falling upon the earth, unless by His permission. Indeed Allah, to the people, is Kind and Merciful.
And He is the one who gave you life; then He causes you to die and then will [again] give you life. Indeed, mankind is ungrateful.
