Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Ghammrah (غَمْرَةٍ): Deep heedlessness, overwhelming ignorance, or a state of being submerged in negligence—like being covered by deep water.
  • Min dūni dhālik (مِن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ): Besides that, apart from that—referring to deeds other than their disbelief.
  • ʿĀmilūn (عَامِلُونَ): Doers, active performers—emphasizing that they are persistently engaged in these deeds.

Tafsir (Explanation):

The verse addresses the stubborn reality of the disbelievers who, despite the truth of the Qur’an being clear, remain veiled from it. Their hearts are not merely ignorant—they are submerged in a deep, overwhelming heedlessness (ghammrah) that prevents the light of this revelation from reaching them. This is not a simple oversight; it is a willful blindness that has enveloped their inner selves, making them incapable of perceiving the guidance before them.

Moreover, beyond their rejection of faith, they have other deeds—corrupt actions, sins, and acts of mischief—that they are actively committed to. These are not incidental mistakes but deliberate pursuits. They are fully engaged in these deeds, persistently working toward them, as if driven by a purpose to spread corruption and oppose the truth. This verse serves as a warning: their heedlessness and their evil deeds will not go unnoticed. Allah, in His justice, grants them respite, but this is not a sign of approval—it is a delay that will ultimately lead to His severe punishment.

Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse is a profound call to self-reflection. It reminds us that the heart can become so veiled by heedlessness that even the clearest truth fails to penetrate it. As believers, we must guard our hearts against the gradual buildup of negligence—through regular remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur’an, and sincere repentance. The Qur’an is a living light; it transforms hearts that are open to it. Do not let your heart become like theirs—submerged in distraction and worldly pursuits. Instead, let the Qur’an be your constant companion, for it is the key to true life and peace. And remember, every deed you do is recorded; choose deeds that will weigh heavily in your favor on the Day you meet your Lord.

📜 Verse 61-65 — Al-Mu'minun

It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein.
And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged.
But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing,
Until when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they are crying [to Allah] for help.
Do not cry out today. Indeed, by Us you will not be helped.
