Surah An-Nur — Verse 38

Their purpose in all these acts of devotion was not worldly gain, but rather to attain Allah's pleasure and to receive His generous reward.

Allah, in His infinite mercy and justice, promises to reward them with the best of what they have done. This means He overlooks their shortcomings and imperfections, and instead selects their finest deeds to be the basis of their reward. He does not hold them accountable for every small mistake; rather, He elevates their best actions and multiplies their value manifold.

Then comes the even more beautiful promise: "and He will increase them from His bounty." This is the extra gift — the part that goes beyond what their deeds could ever earn. Even if a believer performed the most perfect deeds throughout their entire life, those deeds would still be insufficient to repay Allah's favors. Yet Allah, out of His sheer generosity, grants them more than they deserve. This is the pure grace of Allah that no amount of worship can ever equal.

The verse concludes with a profound statement: "And Allah provides for whom He wills without measure." This is a declaration of Allah's absolute sovereignty and limitless generosity. He gives to whom He wishes — not because they earned it, but because His mercy encompasses all. His giving is not constrained by calculations, limits, or conditions. He can grant Paradise, forgiveness, and blessings in ways that surpass human imagination.

This verse invites you to never despair of Allah's mercy, no matter how many sins you have committed. His door of bounty is always open. Even if your deeds are few and imperfect, He accepts them and multiplies them beyond measure. So rush to Him with whatever you have — a sincere prayer, a kind word, a small charity — and leave the rest to His infinite generosity. He will surprise you with rewards you never imagined, for He is the One who provides without any reckoning.
