Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Huzyan (هُزُوًا): Mockery, ridicule, or making fun of someone.
- Ba'atha (بَعَثَ): Sent forth, raised up, or commissioned (in this context, as a Messenger).
- Rasūlan (رَسُولًا): A Messenger sent by Allah with a divine message.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse paints a vivid picture of the arrogance and blindness of the disbelievers of Makkah when they encountered the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Whenever they saw him, they did not greet him with respect or listen to his call with an open heart. Instead, they turned him into a target of their mockery and scorn. They would point at him and say, with sarcasm and disbelief: "Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a Messenger to us?" — as if the idea of a prophet from among themselves was something absurd and laughable.
The verse highlights their utter disregard for the truth. They were so consumed by their pride and attachment to their idols that they could not see the light of guidance right in front of them. Their mockery was not just an insult to the Prophet (peace be upon him) but a rejection of Allah's wisdom and mercy in choosing him as a guide for humanity. This attitude reflects a deeper spiritual sickness — the refusal to accept the truth when it comes in a form they did not expect or desire.
A Call to Reflection and Love for the Prophet:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this scene. The greatest man to ever walk the earth — the one whose character was praised by Allah Himself, the one who was sent as a mercy to all worlds — was met with ridicule by those who could not see beyond their own arrogance. Yet, the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained patient, gentle, and steadfast. He did not retaliate or despair; he continued to deliver the message with love and wisdom.
This verse invites us to examine our own hearts: How do we treat the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) today? Do we follow his teachings with sincerity, or do we neglect them? Do we defend his honor when it is attacked, or do we remain silent? The disbelievers mocked him because they were blind to his greatness. But we, as believers, are called to love him more than ourselves, our families, and all of humanity — for he is the one who brought us the light of Islam, the path to eternal success.
Let this verse be a reminder that the truth will always face opposition, but the truth will always prevail. The mockers of the past have long been forgotten, while the message of the Prophet (peace be upon him) continues to illuminate hearts across the globe. Embrace his Sunnah, cherish his teachings, and let your life be a living testimony to the beauty of his character. For truly, Allah chose him as a Messenger not for his own sake, but as a mercy for all of creation — and that is a blessing we should never take for granted.
