Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Qaryah (قَرْيَةٍ): A town, city, or community of people living together in a settled place.
- Nadheer (نَذِيرًا): A warner; a messenger who warns people of the consequences of their actions and calls them to the path of Allah.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, states: "And if We had willed, We could have sent a warner to every town." This verse highlights the profound honor and immense responsibility bestowed upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Had Allah willed, He could have sent a separate prophet to every single community, town, or village—each one carrying the message to their own people alone. But Allah, in His divine wisdom, chose otherwise.
Instead, Allah gathered all of humanity under one message and one Messenger. He sent Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a universal prophet—sent not to one town or one nation, but to all of mankind, from his time until the end of this world. This was not a burden placed upon him to overwhelm him, but rather a great honor that elevated his rank above all previous prophets. The heavier the responsibility, the greater the reward. And indeed, no prophet before him carried the weight of delivering Allah's message to all of humanity.
This verse also carries a beautiful lesson for us: Allah's choices are always perfect. He could have made things "easier" by sending many warners, but He chose to send one final Messenger with a complete, preserved, and eternal message—the Qur'an. This was a mercy for all of humanity, because the message of Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not limited by time, place, or language. It is a living miracle that continues to guide people from every corner of the earth.
Dear reader, reflect on this: You are among those whom this universal message has reached. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was sent for you, personally. The Qur'an was revealed for your guidance. Allah did not leave any town without a warner in the past, and He has not left you without guidance today. The message is in your hands—so what is your response? Will you embrace it, live by it, and share it with others? The Prophet (peace be upon him) carried this trust to you, and now you have the opportunity to carry it forward. Let this verse inspire you to appreciate the gift of Islam, to live by its teachings, and to invite others to its light with wisdom and kindness. For indeed, Allah has honored you by making you part of the nation of the final Messenger—a nation that is meant to be a mercy to all the worlds.
