Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Aykah (الأيكة): A dense, thickly intertwined grove of trees. It refers to the land of Madyan, where the Prophet Shu'ayb (peace be upon him) was sent, known for its lush vegetation and orchards.
- Al-Mursalin (المرسلين): The messengers sent by Allah. Denying one messenger is, in essence, denying all of them, as they all brought the same core message of monotheism.
Explanation of the Verse:
The people of the thicket—the dwellers of the wooded, fertile land—rejected their prophet, Shu'ayb (peace be upon him), when he called them to worship Allah alone. By disbelieving in him, they effectively denied all the messengers of Allah, for the message of every prophet is one and the same: submission to the One True God. Their refusal was not merely an act of stubbornness against one man; it was a rebellion against the entire chain of divine guidance that Allah has sent throughout history.
Shu'ayb, peace be upon him, came to them with a clear call: "Will you not fear Allah?" He urged them to abandon their polytheism and their corrupt practices—particularly their cheating in weights and measures, which they were notorious for. He reminded them that he was a trustworthy messenger, sent with a sacred responsibility, and he sought no reward from them for his guidance. His reward, he told them, was with the Lord of all worlds alone.
Yet, despite his sincerity and the clarity of his message, they turned away in arrogance and disbelief. Their end was severe, as Allah's punishment overtook them for their transgression.
A Call to Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul that hears it: the message of truth is one, and rejecting it—no matter which prophet or which era—is rejecting the very purpose of our existence. The people of the thicket had every blessing: fertile land, abundant trees, and a life of ease. But they forgot the Giver of those blessings and chose to follow their desires instead of their Lord.
Dear reader, do not let the blessings of this world distract you from the One who granted them. The prophets came with one mission: to guide you to peace, purpose, and eternal success. When you accept the message of Islam—the final and complete revelation—you are not merely following one prophet; you are aligning yourself with the timeless truth that every messenger from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all) carried. Embrace that truth today, and you will find a light that no darkness can extinguish, and a peace that no worldly comfort can match. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open—do not let it pass you by.
