Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Pharaoh addresses the chiefs and nobles of his people, seeking to sway them against Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). He claims that Moses is a skilled sorcerer whose ultimate goal is to drive them out of their own land, Egypt, through his magic. Pharaoh's words are a calculated attempt to stir fear and protect his own authority, as he realizes that Moses' message threatens his power and the social order he has established.
Pharaoh then turns to his advisors and asks, "What do you command?" — meaning, what plan do you propose to counter this man? He presents himself as one who is willing to follow their counsel, though in reality, he is manipulating them to reinforce his own agenda. This consultation is a strategic move: by involving them in the decision, he makes them complicit in whatever evil they will plot against Moses.
The deeper lesson here is profound. Pharaoh, despite his immense power and wealth, was terrified of a man armed only with the truth and the support of Allah. He resorted to lies, labeling Moses' clear miracles as mere "magic," and he appealed to the people's attachment to their homeland to turn them against the prophet. This is a timeless pattern: tyrants throughout history have used fear, false accusations, and appeals to worldly interests to suppress the call to truth.
For the believer, this verse serves as a reminder that the enemies of truth will always try to distort the message and frighten the people. But as the story of Moses unfolds, we see that Allah's plan prevails, and the plots of Pharaoh ultimately backfire. Trust in Allah, hold firm to the truth, and never be intimidated by the schemes of the powerful — for Allah is with those who are patient and righteous.
