Explanation of the Verse:
This verse captures the words of the people of Pharaoh as they urged him to gather the strongest sorcerers to confront Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). They said: "Perhaps we will follow the sorcerers if they are the victors." Their statement reveals their deep attachment to their false beliefs and their desperate hope that their magicians would overcome Moses, so that they could remain secure in their existing way of life without any change. They were not seeking truth; rather, they were seeking confirmation of their own desires. They had already decided that if the sorcerers won, they would continue as they were, clinging to their old religion and rejecting the call of Moses. This reflects a mindset that prioritizes personal comfort and the status quo over genuine inquiry and truth-seeking.
A Da'wah Perspective:
This verse serves as a powerful reminder for every soul to examine its intentions and priorities. The people of Pharaoh were not interested in truth; they were interested in preserving their own convenience. They were willing to follow anyone—even sorcerers—as long as it meant they did not have to change. How many of us today fall into the same trap? We may hear the truth, but we hesitate to embrace it because it requires effort, sacrifice, or a shift in our comfortable routines. The believer, however, is called to be a seeker of truth wherever it may be found, even if it means abandoning long-held customs or facing opposition. Let this verse inspire you to be sincere in your search for guidance, and to always place the love of Allah and His Messenger above the love of habit and comfort. The truth of Islam is radiant and undeniable—do not let the fear of change hold you back from its eternal light.
