Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Dhū Faḍl (ذُو فَضْلٍ): Possessor of abundant grace, bounty, and kindness.
  • Lā Yashkurūn (لَا يَشْكُرُونَ): They do not show gratitude or thankfulness.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O noble Messenger, your Lord is indeed the Owner of immense grace and favor upon all of humanity. His mercy is so vast that He does not hasten to punish people for their sins, disbelief, and disobedience. Despite their constant transgressions and turning away from Him, He continues to shower them with blessings — providing them with sustenance, health, safety, and countless other favors every single moment. He gives them time to repent, to reflect, and to return to the path of guidance, rather than seizing them immediately for their wrongdoings.

Yet, despite this overwhelming kindness and patience, most people fail to recognize these blessings or express gratitude to their Lord. They take His favors for granted, as if they were entitled to them, and they do not use these blessings to draw closer to Him through sincere faith and devoted worship. Instead of thanking Him by believing in Him, obeying His commands, and worshipping Him alone, they remain heedless and ungrateful.

This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's infinite mercy and forbearance. Imagine a master who is endlessly patient with a servant who constantly disobeys him — that is but a fraction of Allah's mercy towards us. He does not punish us immediately for every sin; rather, He opens the doors of repentance and forgiveness, waiting for us to turn back to Him.

Dear reader, reflect on this: every breath you take, every heartbeat, every meal you eat, every moment of peace you enjoy — all of these are manifestations of Allah's grace upon you. The fact that you are reading these words right now is itself a favor from Him. So let us not be among those who are ungrateful. Let us be among the thankful ones — those who recognize Allah's blessings, praise Him for them, and use them in ways that please Him. For gratitude is not merely a word on the tongue; it is a state of the heart that manifests in obedience to Allah and service to His creation.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would stand in prayer at night until his feet swelled, and when asked why he worshipped so diligently despite his sins being forgiven, he replied: "Should I not be a grateful servant?" This is the essence of true thankfulness — using every blessing to draw closer to the One who granted it.

So let us hasten to thank Allah before the opportunity slips away, for gratitude opens the doors of more blessings, as Allah promises: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (Ibrahim 14:7). May Allah make us among those who truly appreciate His boundless favors and express their gratitude through faith and righteous deeds.

📜 Verse 71-75 — An-Naml

And they say, "When is [the fulfillment of] this promise, if you should be truthful?"
Say, "Perhaps it is close behind you - some of that for which you are impatient.
And indeed, your Lord is full of bounty for the people, but most of them do not show gratitude."
And indeed, your Lord knows what their breasts conceal and what they declare.
And there is nothing concealed within the heaven and the earth except that it is in a clear Register.
