Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Sūr (الصور): The Trumpet that will be blown by the Angel Isrāfīl (peace be upon him) to signal the end of this world and the beginning of the Hereafter.
- Fazi‘a (فزع): A state of intense terror and extreme fear that overwhelms the heart.
- Dākhirīn (داخرين): Humiliated, subdued, and utterly submissive—coming forth in a state of complete humility and lowliness.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, remind the people of that awe-inspiring Day when the Trumpet will be blown—the second blast that will bring this worldly life to an end. At that moment, a terrifying panic will seize every living being in the heavens and the earth. The sheer magnitude of that sound will strike fear into the hearts of angels, humans, and jinn alike, causing them to tremble in dread. However, Allah—in His infinite mercy and wisdom—will exempt whom He wills from this terror; those whom He has honoured and protected from the overwhelming fright of that moment.
Then, all of creation—without exception—will be gathered before their Lord, coming to Him in a state of complete humility and submission. They will have no power to resist, no ability to flee, and no choice but to present themselves before their Creator, utterly subdued and obedient to His command. The proud will be humbled, the mighty will be brought low, and every soul will stand before Allah in absolute surrender.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This vivid scene invites every believer to contemplate the reality of that inevitable Day. If the mere blowing of a trumpet can cause such universal terror, how then should we prepare ourselves for the meeting with our Lord? This verse awakens the heart to the greatness of Allah and the certainty of the Hereafter, urging us to live with awareness and purpose. Let this reminder be a motivation to draw closer to Allah through sincere worship, righteous deeds, and repentance—so that on that Day, we may be among those whom Allah honours with His protection and mercy. For the believer who lives in obedience to Allah, the terror of that Day will be transformed into peace and security by the grace of the Most Merciful. Let us, therefore, hasten to good deeds and seek Allah’s pleasure before that Day arrives—a Day when no soul will be able to help another, and all matters will return to Allah alone.
