Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Phrases:
- "Al-Gharbi" (الْغَرْبِيِّ): The western side (of the mountain). It refers to the western side of Mount Tur (Sinai), the direction where Moses was when Allah spoke to him.
- "Qadayna ila Musa al-Amr" (قَضَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَى الْأَمْرَ): "We decreed/ordained the matter to Moses." This means Allah conveyed and finalized His command to Moses, entrusting him with the mission of prophethood and the duty to go to Pharaoh.
- "Ash-Shahidin" (الشَّاهِدِينَ): The witnesses; those who were present and saw the event with their own eyes.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet Muhammad, you were not present on the western slope of Mount Tur on that momentous day when Allah decreed the matter to Moses — the day He honored him with the divine message and commanded him to go to Pharaoh and his people. You were not among those who stood there as witnesses, nor did you see any of these events with your own eyes. You did not live in that era, nor did you sit with Moses or walk in his footsteps.
So how is it that you narrate this story with such precise detail, as if you had been an eyewitness to it all? This is, in itself, a living miracle and a clear proof that what you convey is not learned from books or inherited from storytellers, but rather a revelation from the All-Knowing, the All-Aware. It is Allah who has informed you of these unseen events, and it is He who has chosen you to deliver this message to humanity.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every seeker of truth: the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was an unlettered man who grew up in a society that had no knowledge of such ancient histories. Yet, he came with the most accurate account of the past, the present, and the future. This is a testament to the truthfulness of his prophethood and the divine origin of the Quran.
Beloved reader, reflect on this: the One who revealed these stories to His Prophet is the same One who is watching over you, hearing your prayers, and guiding you to the straight path. When you read the Quran, you are not merely reading a book — you are receiving a direct message from your Creator, who knows what was, what is, and what will be. Let this certainty fill your heart with tranquility, and let it draw you closer to the One who has sent down this magnificent guidance for your salvation in this life and the Hereafter.
