Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger of Allah, this verse stands as one of the clearest miracles of your prophethood and the divine origin of the Qur'an. Before the Qur'an was revealed to you, you never recited any book, nor did you write anything with your hand — you were unlettered, unable to read or write, and your people knew this well. You grew up among them for forty years, and they witnessed your entire life; they knew you were not a scholar, a poet, or a scribe. You had no access to the Torah, the Gospel, or any other scripture, and you never studied under any teacher of the People of the Book.
Had you been literate or known how to read and write before the revelation, the people of falsehood would have found a pretext to cast doubt upon your message. They would have claimed: "He has read the previous scriptures and copied from them, or he has studied with the learned ones and then presented this as revelation." But because you were completely unlettered, their arguments collapsed, and the miraculous nature of the Qur'an became undeniable — a book of unmatched eloquence and profound knowledge came to a man who had never read a single line or written a single letter.
This verse is a powerful testimony to the truth of Islam. It calls every sincere seeker of truth to reflect: How could an unlettered man from the desert of Arabia produce a book that has challenged humanity for over fourteen centuries — a book filled with scientific, historical, and legislative wonders that no human could have known at that time? The answer is clear: this Qur'an is the word of Allah, the Creator of all things, revealed to His chosen Messenger.
For us today, this verse strengthens our faith and fills our hearts with certainty. It reminds us that Allah chooses His messengers and supports them with signs that defy human capability. It also teaches us that truth, when it comes from Allah, is always accompanied by proofs that silence the doubters and guide the believers. Let us hold fast to this Qur'an with conviction, knowing that its source is divine, and let us share this beautiful truth with others — for it is the light that illuminates the path to eternal success.
