📖 English Meaning
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know.

Word Meanings:

  • Yalwoona alsinatahum – They twist and bend their tongues while reciting, altering the pronunciation and wording to deceive listeners.
  • Bil-Kitab – With the Scripture, meaning the Torah as revealed by Allah.
  • Fareeq – A group or party among the People of the Book.
  • Yaqooloona 'ala Allah al-kadhib – They attribute falsehood to Allah, claiming He said what He did not say.

Explanation of the Verse:

Among the People of the Book — specifically the Jews of Madinah at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — there was a group who deliberately distorted the words of the Torah. They would twist their tongues and alter the pronunciation and phrasing when reciting, so that the listeners would think they were reading the actual revealed Scripture of Allah. In reality, what they recited was not from the Torah at all; it was their own fabrication and invention.

They would then boldly declare, "This is from Allah," claiming that their distorted words were divine revelation sent down to Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him). But this was a complete lie — it was not from Allah in any way. They knew the truth, yet they persisted in this deception for worldly gains, such as preserving their status, collecting bribes, and maintaining their influence over the people. They knowingly spoke falsehood about Allah, fully aware that they were lying.

This verse exposes their hypocrisy and serves as a stern warning: those who distort the truth and attribute lies to Allah, while knowing the truth, commit a grave sin. The Quran repeatedly emphasizes that Allah is the Guardian of His revelation, and no human distortion can change His final Word.

A Call to Reflect and Embrace the Truth:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the sanctity of divine revelation and the importance of honesty. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has preserved the Quran from any distortion, as He Himself promised: "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran, and indeed, We will be its guardian" (Surah Al-Hijr, 15:9). Unlike previous scriptures, which were altered by human hands, the Quran remains pure and unchangeable — a living miracle for all of humanity.

When we read the Quran, we are reading the exact words of our Creator, untouched and unaltered. This is a blessing beyond measure. Let us approach it with reverence, sincerity, and a desire to understand and implement its guidance. And let us beware of those who, even today, twist meanings to serve their own interests — for Allah sees all, and He will hold every soul accountable for what it utters and believes.

The path of truth is clear, and the Quran is its brightest light. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find peace, guidance, and success in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 76-80 — Aal-Imran

76بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِ وَاتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ
But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah - then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him.
Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their [own] oaths for a small price will have no share in the Hereafter, and Allah will not speak to them or look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them; and they will have a painful punishment.
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know.
It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allah," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied."
80وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَن تَتَّخِذُوا الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُم بِالْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
Nor could he order you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he order you to disbelief after you had been Muslims?
