The Interpretation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most High, declares a severe and terrifying warning to those who sell the covenant of Allah and their own oaths for a paltry price—the cheap and transient goods of this worldly life. They are the ones who, when entrusted with the truth, the divine commandments, or the duty of honesty, choose instead to twist the words, conceal the facts, and swear false oaths in order to gain some fleeting material benefit, whether it be money, status, or the approval of people.
For such people, Allah declares that they shall have no share of goodness in the Hereafter. Their deeds, no matter how impressive they may appear in this world, will be stripped of all value on the Day of Judgment. Moreover, Allah will not speak to them in a manner that brings them joy or comfort—rather, His silence toward them is a sign of His utter displeasure. He will not look at them with the eye of mercy and compassion, for they have severed themselves from His grace. He will not purify them from the filth of their sins and disbelief, leaving them stained and rejected. And finally, for them is a painful, agonizing punishment—a torment that will be their eternal abode, a fitting consequence for those who preferred the dust of this world over the everlasting bliss of the Hereafter.
This verse serves as a profound reminder for every believer: never trade your faith, your honesty, or your covenant with Allah for the fleeting glitter of this world. No matter how much wealth or status you may gain by compromising your principles, it is nothing but a "small price" when compared to what you stand to lose. The Hereafter is the true life, and its rewards are eternal. So hold firm to the trust Allah has placed upon you, be truthful in your words and oaths, and never let the temptations of this world rob you of the greatest treasure—the pleasure and mercy of Allah. For the one who remains steadfast, Allah promises a reward beyond imagination, a light that will shine on the Day when darkness prevails, and a closeness to Him that no worldly gain can ever match.
