Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿAlā Hudan (عَلَىٰ هُدًى): Upon clear guidance, light, and insight.
- Min Rabbihim (مِن رَّبِّهِمْ): From their Lord — indicating that this guidance is not self-acquired but divinely bestowed.
- Al-Mufliḥūn (الْمُفْلِحُونَ): The successful ones — those who attain what they seek and are saved from what they fear.
Explanation of the Verse:
After describing the qualities of the true believers — those who establish prayer, give charity, and have certainty in the Hereafter — Allah now seals their description with this magnificent verse, declaring their ultimate outcome.
These people, who embody the beautiful traits mentioned in the preceding verses, are not wandering in darkness or confusion. Rather, they are upon clear guidance from their Lord — a light that illuminates their path, a compass that directs their steps, and a certainty that steadies their hearts. This guidance is a gift from Allah Himself, the Most Merciful, who does not leave His sincere servants without direction.
And then comes the glorious promise: "And it is they who are the successful ones." True success (al-falāḥ) in the Quranic context means complete victory — attaining everything good in this life and the next, and being saved from everything harmful. It is not merely worldly achievement, but the ultimate triumph of standing before Allah on the Day of Judgment with a heart at peace, entering His Paradise, and receiving His eternal pleasure.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: Allah is telling us that the path to true success is not complicated or unattainable. It lies in the qualities mentioned just before this verse — establishing prayer that connects you to your Creator, giving charity that purifies your wealth and soul, and believing with certainty in the Hereafter that gives your life meaning and purpose.
These are not burdens; they are blessings. They are the keys to a life of tranquility in this world and eternal bliss in the next. When you pray, you are not performing a ritual — you are conversing with the Lord of the heavens and the earth. When you give in charity, you are not losing wealth — you are investing in a treasure that never perishes. When you believe in the Hereafter, you are not living in fear — you are living with hope and direction.
The verse ends with the word *al-mufliḥūn* — the successful ones. This is not a vague promise but a divine guarantee from the One who never breaks His word. So ask yourself: Do you want to be among these successful ones? The door is open, the path is clear, and the Lord is calling. Take the first step today, and let this verse be your motivation to live a life that leads to eternal success.
