Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Istawa (استوى): Rose and ascended in a manner that befits His Majesty, without any resemblance to His creation.
- Al-'Arsh (العرش): The Throne, the greatest of Allah's creations, over which He has risen in a way that suits His divine perfection.
- Waliyy (ولي): A protector, guardian, or one who manages your affairs.
- Shafi' (شفيع): An intercessor who pleads on your behalf.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah — and He alone — is the One who created the heavens, the earth, and everything between them in six days. This period of six days reflects His divine wisdom and deliberate planning; He is fully capable of creating all of that with a single command "Be," and it comes to be. Yet He chose this timeframe to teach His creation the value of patience, order, and precision in all matters.
After completing this magnificent creation, He rose over the Throne — an elevation that befits His infinite majesty and glory, utterly unlike the rising of any created being. We affirm this attribute as He described it, without asking "how," without comparing it to His creation, and without distorting its meaning. This is the creed of the righteous predecessors and the path of the believers.
Then comes a profound call to every human being: O people! You have no protector besides Allah who can manage your affairs, and no intercessor who can plead for you before Him to save you from His punishment. If you disobey Him, no one can shield you from His justice, and no one can intercede without His permission. So why do you turn to false gods, idols, or created beings seeking help and salvation? Why do you place your hopes in those who possess nothing?
A Call to Reflection:
O humanity! Will you not reflect and take heed? Will you not use your intellect to see that the One who created these vast heavens and this earth — with all their wonders and perfect order — is the only One worthy of your worship? The One who raised the skies without pillars, spread the earth beneath your feet, and filled the space between them with countless blessings — how can you then worship others besides Him?
Let this verse awaken your heart. Every time you look at the sky, remember its Creator. Every time you walk on the earth, remember its Maker. And know that your salvation, your protection, and your intercession lie only with Allah — so turn to Him sincerely, worship Him alone, and make your life a journey of gratitude and obedience to the One who created you and sustains you every single moment.
