Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse continues the story of the people of the town (identified by many scholars as Antioch/Antakya), which Allah presents as a lesson for the disbelievers of Makkah who rejected the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah says: "When We sent to them two messengers, they denied them both, so We reinforced them with a third, and they said, 'Indeed, we are sent to you as messengers.'"
The sequence here is profound. Allah first sent two messengers to guide the people, but the people rejected them with stubbornness and hostility. Instead of abandoning them, Allah strengthened the mission by sending a third messenger to support the first two. This teaches us a vital lesson: when the call to truth faces rejection, it does not mean the mission has failed—rather, it is a test of patience and perseverance. The three messengers then stood together and declared clearly: "Indeed, we are sent to you." They did not waver, nor did they soften the truth to please the people. They affirmed their divine mission with confidence and sincerity.
This verse carries a beautiful message of resilience. The messengers did not let the initial rejection discourage them; instead, they united, supported one another, and continued their call with even greater strength. For any believer, this is a reminder that the path of truth is not always easy, but Allah’s support comes to those who remain steadfast. When you face rejection in spreading goodness, know that Allah may send you help and reinforcement in ways you do not expect—just as He reinforced the two messengers with a third.
Moreover, the verse highlights the importance of unity among those who carry the message of truth. The three messengers spoke with one voice, saying, "We are sent to you." Their collective declaration was more powerful than individual efforts. This teaches us that when believers unite for a righteous cause, their impact multiplies, and their message becomes stronger.
Dear reader, reflect on this: Allah does not leave His messengers—or His sincere servants—without support. If you are striving to live by the Qur'an and call others to goodness, trust in Allah's promise of help. The rejection you face today may be the very reason Allah sends you unexpected strength tomorrow. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and determination, for the victory of truth is always near for those who persevere with patience and faith.
