Surah Yasin — Verse 54

Word Meanings:

• لَا تُظْلَمُ – will not be wronged or treated unjustly.
• شَيْئًا – in the least, to any extent, even the smallest amount.
• وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ – and you will not be recompensed or rewarded.
• إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ – except for what you used to do (in the worldly life).

Explanation of the Verse:

On that Day—the Day of Resurrection—the scales of justice will be set with absolute perfection. No soul will be wronged in the slightest degree: not a single good deed will be diminished, nor will a single sin be increased beyond what was committed. Every person will receive exactly what they earned through their intentions and actions in this worldly life. This is a declaration of the ultimate fairness of Allah, the Most Just, who does not overlook a speck of good or evil. The verse is a direct address to all of humanity, reminding them that their deeds are recorded and will be returned to them in full—whether they are righteous or otherwise. There is no intercession that can alter this decree, and no favoritism that can tip the balance; it is pure, unadulterated justice.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a profound source of comfort for the believer and a stern warning for the negligent. For the believer, it brings tranquility: every ounce of patience, every hidden charity, every tear shed in fear of Allah, and every struggle against sin is preserved and will be rewarded without loss. For the one who is heedless, it is a call to wake up—today is the day of action, tomorrow is the day of recompense. Allah, in His mercy, has given us this life as a field of opportunity; let us sow seeds of goodness so that on that Day, we may reap a harvest of eternal bliss. The verse also instills hope: even the smallest good deed is not wasted, and Allah’s justice is coupled with His boundless grace, for He multiplies rewards beyond measure while forgiving sins out of His mercy. So, race towards obedience, and never despair of Allah’s mercy, for He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
